Verbalists is the home of modern storytelling in Seattle. Fans of David Sedaris, Garrison Keillor, and This American Life will enjoy this evening of life, love, and legend set to music.
We choose Seattle's finest writers, put them in a room with a theatre director and a guitarist, and build an evening of original storytelling as entertaining as it is sophisticated. And, best of all, we're taping the show and you'll get a bonus digital recording just for coming!
Wesley K. Andrews is the Producer of Verbalists. He is a storyteller and songwriter whose work has been featured locally at the Heineken City Arts Festival, Annex Theatre, 12 Minutes Max at On the Boards, 14/48 The World's Quickest Theatre Festival, NewsWrights United, as well as engagements in New Jersey, Bellingham, and Fairbanks, Alaska. He recorded his first full-length spoken word album titled The Riverboat Runs Aground at Empty Sea Studios in November of 2012. You can listen online at: www.wesleykandrews.com.
Mateo Cruz is a transgender writer who recently relocated to Seattle and is obsessed with the lost art of letter writing. He is currently working on a collection of personal narratives. He often writes poems (in his head) while driving a forklift, and is queer as a Monday is long. This is his third performance with Verbalists.
Sheeba Jacob is a writer, singer, and performer. Just last year, she came out with her first E.P., Sing it from Your Soul, a c.d. with songs that reflect her musings on life and love. She has performed her music several times at events such as ISIS, a women's festival in Seattle and Yoni Ki Baat, the South Asian version of the Vagina Monologues. She recently participated in the Verbalists Intensive which reminded her about her love of storytelling. Crossing geographic borders, surrounding herself by amazingly creative souls, and slowly learning just what this life is about has given her the right mix of material for all of her creative endeavors.
