| Description |
Mentor Me Petaluma and the Rotary Club of Petaluma International Committee have joined forces to create a brand new event: the Petaluma Art and Equestrian Festival. The Festival is a fundraiser to benefit Mentor Me Petalumas local youth mentoring program and Rotarys International Committee programs to serve youth here and around the world. Mentor Me Petaluma is a school-based youth mentoring program, helping children and youth who need an extra adult friend and role model in their lives. Its mission is to operate a mentoring program that provides students with community volunteers who offer friendship and guidance in a consistent, supportive environment; its vision is to inspire youth success!
The International Committees mission is to improve health and education and to save lives of children both in the United States and internationally. To this end it provides water purification systems in schools, malaria nets, eye and dental care, school supplies and scholarships. Rotary International has joined with the World Health Organization to eradicate polio throughout the world, saving thousands of lives.
Festival-goers will enjoy a demonstration polo match, professional show jumping, and riding and carriage driving exhibitions by Pony Club teenagers and their horses. Sonoma County artists will have artwork on display and for sale. Wine and beer tasting, a tasty variety of food, a petting zoo, pony rides and live music will round out the day. Proceeds from the Festival will pay for clean drinking water, free dental clinics, mechanical soy cows and to continue polio eradication for children overseas, as well as the opening of one new mentor center for children and youth in Petaluma and the recruitment, screening and training of 50 new mentors. |
