"Encuentros" At The Common Ground Festival Of The People
Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre is honored to be the culminating event of this week long festival. A festival of many cultures coming together through dance, music, poetry, theater, workshops and other art forms.
Alborada is working in close collaboration with the Epic Actors Theater group to create a joint segment involving Flamenco and its intersection with Northern India's dance roots (of the Gypsy tribes) and its current impact on current western Indian and American dance students, including those of Hispanic heritage. This segment would end the Saturday evening performance of the Epic theater group and tease the audience into the opening of Alborada's performance on the Sunday.
The title "Intergenerational" speaks for itself inasmuch as dancers from all generations will integrate their flamenco solo dance performances with either a narrated poem or by they themselves speaking about their passion and commitment to an art form which stems from abroad. What draws them into this art form? What inspired them to continue, and how did it change their lives? Some dance pieces will be set to poetry, mainly of Federico Garcia Lorca. The ending will culminate in the joining together of the generations in festive dances.
This concert will bring awareness to the public about how flamenco dance and music speaks to dancers of all ages and backgrounds inspiring their personal spiritual and physical involvement in this unique art form. The public will be educated about the enduring nature and importance of centuries of migration of this Gypsy art form from Spain and beyond.
Through dance, drama and music, Alborada's passionate artistry reveals the many diverse and historical threads that comprise the multicultural fabric of Spanish culture. Both entertaining and educational, the variety of its repertoire runs the artistic gamut of Spanish Flamenco and traditional dances, to Hispanic, Celtic, Moorish cultural influences and beyond.
