While most kids were playing cops and robbers, Ryan Hommel was playing Elvis. Now 24, while most of his peers are just graduating college and attempting to find their footing in the workforce, Hommel is already a touring veteran and multi-faceted producer and sideman. Coming into his own now as front man for his debut and self titled EP, Ryan Hommel is going back to his roots. All of them. Bridging the gaps between early Rock'n'Roll and Soul, Folk and R&B; Hommel delivers of 5 honest-and-introspective-yet-not-wimpy performances of his all-original music.
His unique ability to authentically and emotionally support somebody else's song, no matter the genre, is a skill he attributes to "many years of practiced restraint and patience in music," says Hommel. "My allegiance is to the song, and that's the most liberating and challenging part of what I do." Thankfully none of that intention or focus is lost with his own music, as is the case with so many sidemen-gone-frontmen. Look forward to more exciting music from Ryan Hommel.
"Ryan Hommel delivers his beautiful music with a discipline and clarity that allows it to travel straight to your soul." -Livingston Taylor
"I recently heard Ryan sing a few of his songs... I was knocked out by his dynamic old-soul vocals and his sophisticated guitar legerdemain. He seemed able to play chords and improvise a melodic solo all at once." -Adam Levy (Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman, Amos Lee)
