Introduction to Beekeeping
Bill Weibalk and Will Ackley will be discussing the benefits of keeping bees in a garden, and how to harvest surplus honey. They will provide workshop participants with an overview of how a bee colony operates the importance of bee pollination to agriculture, the equipment needed to keep bees, and the responsibilities of the beekeeper. A honey tasting to appreciate the taste and quality of the honey without pesticides will conclude the workshop.
The workshop is suitable for all levels of experience, and is $10 for Sonoma Ecology Center members and $15 for non-members. All proceeds benefit Sonoma Garden Park, a working farm and model of sustainable agriculture, managed by Sonoma Ecology Center. Sonoma Garden Park was a gift from Pauline Bond, and is located at 19996 Seventh Street East, between MacArthur and Denmark Streets in Sonoma.
