THE UNKNOWN (Tod Browning, 1927)
To kick-start our Director's Pick series, Guy Maddin ("Brand Upon the Brain!" and "My Winnipeg") will introduce and translate the French intertitles for this unusual 35mm print of THE UNKNOWN, Tod Browning's horror-ode to unrequited love. Lon Chaney stars as Alonzo the Armless, who performs a knife-throwing act with his feet, and Joan Crawford is Nanon, who has a pathological fear of a man's touch. It's one of the most brazenly bizarre films ever made...  hands down!
