For our Pride concert, the Gateway Men's Chorus will take the audience on a musical journey -- celebrating self, community, and love. The Chorus will reaffirm the building of character and purpose with Michael Jackson's Man In The Mirror, they will explore their power and determination with Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive and Dolly Parton's Travelin' Thru, and they will offer strength and support for those still fighting with such selections as Cyndi Lauper's True Colors and the cult favorite Hold On, originally performed by Wilson Phillips. The show is a tribute to the men and women who have bravely walked before us and a testament to the young who are just now coming into their own. Finally, this concert will feature the Saint Louis debut of a new piece by Stephen Schwartz, the acclaimed composer of WICKED and GODSPELL. You'll also enjoy music from The Mamas & The Papas, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Madonna.
At this concert, GMC will also unveil the details of a new mixed youth chorus for teens 13-18, modeled after the highly successful Perform OUT KC! Additionally, we will invite local organizations working with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community, providing them information tables to display and promote their support groups and services to our audience. Featured in the program for this concert will be a series of pages devoted to the history of the LGBT movement, as well as the important role of gay choruses in the shaping of our communities and our youth.
