Litha
One of Europe's top Celtic acts comes to our area for the first time. Litha (pronounced Lee-tha) is an Anglo-Saxon word for the season of light, festivals and music. At, appropiately a music festival in 2006 Scotland's Old Blind Dogs' singer and bouzouki player Aaron Jones, a former winner of the Scots Trad Music Award as 'Instrumentalist of the Year'and his musical partner and frequent Old Blind Dogs guest, fiddler, flute and whistle player and multiple All-Ireland Champion Claire Mann met with singer, fiddler and accordionist Gudrun Walther and guitarist Juergen Treyz from the award-winning Celtic band from Germany, Cara. The resulting combination is an exhilarating sound, equally strong on tunes and vocals and has produced a powerful pair of highly praised albums. Whether it is a raucous reel featuring furious fiddles, a gentle air on flute, a winsome waltz on diatonic accordion, traditional ballads or contemporary folk songs, you're sure to be transported by the warp speed of Litha's lethal instruments and dilithium crystal-clear voices. Do make the trek to see these stars of which Living Tradition Magazine noted, 'They meet at this quite literal Celtic crossroads to share and celebrate their common ground through exciting musicianship that's so natural and refreshing.'
