THE CHOPIN PROJECT
A unique afternoon of music and dance created especially for Astoria, featuring Portland's award-winning contemporary dance company and a brilliant young American pianist poised to burst onto the international stage.
Agnieszka Laska took on a challenging task: choreographing all 24 Chopin preludes Op. 28. So far she's completed 14 all presented in different configurations on various occasions related to her Polish heritage. For the Astoria Music Festival she's combined them with Nocturne Op. 9: No. 1 in B-Flat Minor resulting in a very romantic and emotional set of solos, duets and group dances, with a distinct Polish flavor.
Featuring "one of the most impressive young musicians from around the nation Ruta Kuzmickas performed Frédéric Chopin's Waltz with an extraordinary sensibility that is far beyond her 16 years." Oregon Music News
