Node Weekend Intensive
Over the course of one evening and two days, you will learn the foundations of full stack JavaScript backend development under the guidance of world class mentors. The focus of the weekend will be project-based application development designed to prepare you to continue learning independently.
Intermediate to advanced JavaScript knowledge is assumed. You'll need to understand iterators, lexical scope, how to create your own objects and classes and be familiar with the underscore.js API. A basic understanding of event driven architecture is a plus, but is not required.
You will learn the core of developing with Node - building a server with Express and building an API server with Express and Redis - in the context of building an application from scratch, meaning you'll be writing code from the beginning of the course. This will include:
- Introduction to asynchronous JavaScript
- Process control and invoking Node
- Installing and using modules
- Project configuration and NPM
- Using Grunt to automate workflow and create utilities
- EventEmitter
- Working with streams
- fs, path and child_process modules
- Your options for working with databases in Node
- Build a server with Express
- Build an API server with Express and Redis
What do I need to bring?
In addition to your own laptop with WiFi, we'll send you a list of suggested reading and tools you'll need to have configured on your machine prior to the start of the intensive.

Coffee, a light breakfast and catered lunch will be provided on Saturday and Sunday during each weekend. In addition, the HUB is located in the International District of Seattle which has a fantastic range of dining options.
Where are the events held?
The HUB Seattle, 220 2nd Ave South, Seattle, WA 98104. The HUB is in the triangle-shaped building in between the two forks of 2nd Ave S. Entrance on the West side.
Parking? Public transit?
Paid parking is available in various nearby lots for roughly $15 per day. The HUB is two blocks away from the Pioneer Square station in the bus tunnel and is close to numerous surface bus lines.
Can I transfer my registration?
You can transfer your ticket to another person by contacting info@forgejs.com and letting us know who the registration should be transferred to. Your email must match the one you bought the ticket with.
Can I cancel my registration?
Need to cancel your registration? Notify us in writing at info@forgejs.com within 15 days of the start of your workshop for a refund less a $100 fee. Cancellation less than 15 days before the start of the workshop is non-refundable. Confirmed attendees who do not attend or cancel within 15 days are not eligable for a refund. In the event the training is cancelled, the liability of ForgeJS is limited to the return of paid registration fees.
