The Ten Thousand Things
Little Theatre (Capitol Hill) Seattle, WA
World Premiere written by Paul Mullin directed by Braden Abraham
Deep in the mountains of the future a young woman quests after a clock said to be keeping time for 10,000 years. At a cocktail party in Hollywood a writer wrestles with an idea for a play about such a clock. Teleology, tautology and entropy explode in this intelligent and relevant new world premiere by local playwright Paul Mullin.
Inspired by the Long Now Foundation's actual plans to build a decamillenial clock, THE TEN THOUSAND THINGS is itself designed to track time over the ages by "ticking" as it changes by one word each performance. Weaving together stories across deep time, this engaging new masterpiece confronts the idea that time is vastly, fundamentally and fascinatingly different from what we think it is.
