Amuse Bouche: A variety show to benefit Breaking Ground
BlacK*acrobat and Upsidown Productions are teaming up to host a variety show at The Muse in Williamsburg. All proceeds from the night will benefit Breaking Ground's programs in Cameroon.
Come ready to be amazed and inspired!
In addition to performances there will be prizes to be won, Cameroonian earrings available for purchase and a cash bar.
Tickets are $16.50 online, and $20 at the door (where cash or check will be much appreciated).
Breaking Ground: Founded in 2006, Breaking Ground partners with Cameroonians to achieve lasting solutions to their self-identified needs by investing in local knowledge, empowering women, and promoting economic development. In the last seven years Breaking Ground has made a tangible difference in the lives of over 34,000 Cameroonians in 8 different communities. Current projects include an initiative to bring clean water to the 3,500 people in the community of Baleveng and a women's entrepreneurial program in the city of Dschang.
Upsidown Productions: Madeline Hoak is a NYC based aerialist, dancer, and teaching artist. She teaches Aerial Acrobatics at her alma mater, Muhlenberg College, from which she graduated with degrees in Theater and Dance. In the air, she has performed with Cirque-tacular, Helium Productions, and Above & Beyond Dance. A core member of Grounded Aerial, Ms. Hoak performs nationally on silks, rope, trapeze, harness, and bungee. She has showcased her own choreography at venues such as Brooklyn Arts Exchange, the Abron Arts Center, STREB, and Embody Studio. Madeline founded Upsidown Productions as a platform for the teaching, creation, and production of dance, theater, and everything circus.
BLACK*ACROBAT: Kiebpoli Calnek is an actress and corde lisse aerialist. She is a graduate of CCNY, a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab, and of the Actors' Equity Association. Her works have received generous funding and support from Elizabeth Streb, Astrea Foundation, Asian Arts Initiative, and The New York Foundation for the Arts. Kiebpoli is also Founder and Artistic Director of BLACK*ACROBAT, an organization that empowers people of color through the vertical world of aerial acrobatics and with devised theatrical performances. Our shows tackle provocative dark subjects and re-imagine stories of the black diaspora.
