MPG: Emerald's First Life
March 29-April 6, 2013:
Emerald's First Life
by S.L. Daniels
Em's life is miserable. Miserable. At work, her supervisor and ex-boyfriend insult and humiliate her daily. At home, her brother and sister-in-law drain her financially and emotionally. Fortunately, Em discovers a beautiful, fantastical online world where she can ditch the drudgery and suffering of her "first life." But this virtual world cannot shield Em from darker incidents in her real life, and Em must find the strength to confront those who plague her ... in both lives.
S. L. Daniels' work has recently been produced in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and London. Credits also include: Winner of the Hurricane Season Award for Best Playwriting (Los Angeles); winner in the Oxford Short Play Competition; two Serling Awards (Playwriting New York); winner in the Samuel French One-Act Competition; winner of the Illinois Arts Award for Playwriting; and finalist for the Cunningham Prize, the O'Neill Conference, and Actors Theatre of Louisville's Heidemann Award. NIGHT VISION, a short play, was published in StageTHIS: Volume III. A film based on her play LIE FOR ME is currently in production in Los Angeles.
Performances are at 8 pm on March 29 & 30, and April 5 & 6. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door or online through Brown Paper Tickets. One ticket grants access to all four performances (and free wine).
An audience "talk back" follows each reading. Attend as many times as you can to experience how the play changes as a result of the workshop process and your feedback.
