Extremities opens with a quiet, lazy day for Marjorie. Her day is interrupted by the arrival of Raul, who brutally attacks her and attempts to rape her. In the struggle, Marjorie manages to turn the tables on Raul and subdue him. She ties him up in her fireplace and tortures him as she contemplates what to do with him. Convinced that she would not have enough evidence to prove that he attacked her, and convinced that an acquitted Raul would return to kill her, she decides that she must kill Raul and bury him behind the house. Along the way, Marjorie's two roommates return home and discover the obviously wounded man in their fireplace and a roommate bent on murdering him. The three roommates and the assailant confront fear, betrayal, mistrust, and a breakdown of confidence.
