Brooks Robertson Concert and Workshop
Brooks Robertson, a well known up and coming guitarist from Eugene, Oregon, will be playing the Blue Horse Gallery in Bellingham, WA on March 16th. As the protege of the late Buster B. Jones, Brooks has had the opportunity to befriend and accompany many legendary guitarists including: Thom Bresh, Tommy Emmanuel, and Richard Smith. In 2004, Brooks performed on NPR's "A Prairie Home Companion" where he took 1st place in a national talent competition for 12 to 20 year old participants. He also entered the "Yamaha Six String Theory Guitar Competition" in 2010, where a star-studded jury, including Steve Lukather and Lee Ritenour, eventually chose him as winner of the country category and second place winner overall. Recently, Brooks won The Deli Portland's Readers and Fans' Poll for "Best Emerging Artist of 2012". Though young in age, his skills and musical knowledge are praised by many in the guitar world.
During the day Brooks will be giving a music workshop for intermediate to advanced guitarists.
This course will introduce and develop essential right hand fingerstyle techniques. We will cover Travis Picking patterns, Jerry Reed-style patterns and rolls, artificial harmonics (as used by Chet Atkins, Lenny Breau and Tommy Emmanuel), an introduction to playing chords; across, up and down the entire fretboard with the CAGED system using major, minor and dominant 7th chord qualities, chord construction, chord voicing and functions for application in solo Fingerstyle guitar, accompaniment or ensemble settings whether it be Blues, Folk, Americana, Jazz, or Classical, etc. Additional topics will be dependent on specific student interests and goals. This course is intended for intermediate to advanced guitarist with some kind of familiarity with basic chords in the open position. Fingerpicking experience is not needed, but will be helpful if you've had any degree of familiarity with it in the past. Contact Blue Horse Gallery for more information regarding this class
In the evening, Brooks will be dazzling concert goers with his amazing musical talents.
