Description
If THE COLBERT REPORT and FORBIDDEN BROADWAY had a baby....

A POLITICAL PARTY!, a weekly comedy that feeds on breaking news stories, will begin previews on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 8PM at the Sage Theatre (711 7th Ave.) The Official Opening will be on Wednesday May 28, 2008. Robert Ross Parker Directs.

A POLITICAL PARTY!, a topical paradise in the heart of Times Square is a smart, weekly political comedy that takes full advantage of the one endless source of humor: the news.  Each week, scribes from a group of 20 New York-based writers and composers will ensure that, if a news story breaks, it will be satirized, organized and fully choreographed that very week!

Equal parts zany and insightful, "A POLITICAL PARTY!" skewers the news and informs.  Before each show, audiences are given weekly news packets so they can bone up on the current events that soon will be ripped apart.  However, neither the writers nor the producers push any bias or agenda: Birkenstock-wearing, frisbee-playing liberals are mocked as are the gun-toting, Coulter-watching conservatives.

The material for "A POLITICAL PARTY!" will be provided by a rotating team of twenty freelance New York City writers and composers from such publications as Collegehumor, Barely Political and the Harvard Lampoon, comedic playwrights from such productions as "Jihad: The Musical" (Edinburgh Fringe Festival) and "The Hasty Pudding Theatricals,"improvisers from the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, and stand-up comics from a variety of top New York comedy clubs.
