Garden Cruz Weekend Gardening Course
The weekend Garden Cruz course will cover the basic suite of skills needed to create and maintain a successful organic garden, including
soil assessment and garden bed preparation
direct seeding and transplanting
irrigation
crop care
harvest
cover cropping
composting
Each day will include both lectures and hands-on activities, giving each participant an opportunity to "learn by doing." The class will take place Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 from 9:30 am - 4 pm at the historic Alan Chadwick Garden on the UC Santa Cruz campus.
The course will be taught by Orin Martin, manager of the Alan Chadwick Garden, with organic farmers Sky DeMuro and Zoe Hitchner of Everett Family Farm.
This course is ideal for community members and students involved in campus and community gardens, or looking to enhance their ability to grow food and flowers at home. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.
Cost of the course is $250 general public, $225 for Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden, $175 for UCSC Farm & Garden docents, and $150 for current UCSC students.
