Description
The Novello Quartet returns to the Northwest with a program exploring the moody romanticism of Mendelssohns E minor quartet, Mozarts ebullient and tender Hoffmeister quartet, and the silvery tamber of Hoffmeisters viola damore quartet
Experience the clarity and warmth of this repertoire on period instruments!

Tekla Cunningham, violin and viola d'amore
Cynthia Miller Freivogel, violin
Anthony Martin, viola
Elisabeth Reed, violoncello.

The Novello Quartet was founded in 2002 to perform Joseph Haydns rarely programmed quartet setting of the Seven Last Words of Christ.  The quartets passion for the music of Haydn and his contemporaries has led to an ongoing artistic partnership between four of Americas leading early music artists. The members of the Novello Quartet, Tekla Cunningham and Cynthia Miller Freivogel, violins, Anthony Martin, viola, and Elisabeth Reed, cello, are active in the Bay Area and Americas most prominent early music groups, including Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, Apollos Fire Orchestra in Cleveland, Musica Angelica in Los Angeles, Seattle Baroque Orchestra, and the Portland Baroque Orchestra. The quartet recently completed its first recording, of Haydns op. 50 string quartets #1, 3 and 5, scheduled for release later this year. Recent highlights include concerts for the San Francisco Early Music Society; Whidbey Island Music Festival; performances at the Berkeley Festival; and most recently as the featured ensemble at the 2006 Mozart Conference held at Scripps College in Claremont, CA.
