Dancin' on Broadway & Beyond - a jazz dance extravaganza is a celebration of Broadway musical theater and contemporary concert jazz dance. The show is packed with signature songs and dance pieces from Tony award winning musicals, and is inspired by musical theater legends such as Bob Fosse and classic jazz dance technique. The show takes audiences on a jazz dance journey through some of the dance styles that made Broadway famous and goes beyond with fun and exciting contemporary concert jazz dance.
Directed by Northern Virginia jazz dance icon Marilyn York, the Dancin' Unlimited Jazz Dance Company packs the show with signature songs and dance pieces from Chicago, A Chorus Line, Fosse and Pajama Game. "We will take you on a jazz dance journey through dance styles that made Broadway famous," says York. Dancin' Unlimited's motto is "Jazz Dance with Class." They hold true to classical technique and clean lines with the exuberance to light up Broadway to boot.
Jazz dance is a Made in American dance form that has evolved with our history and absorbed our cultures. It has grown from the streets of New Orleans to Vaudeville, to Broadway musical theater, and to the concert stage. It incorporates the fluid lines of ballet, juxtaposed with the power and passion of high-energy, high-impact movement. Jazz dance is athletic, stirring and powerful.
Dancin' Unlimited, founded in 1973, is a professional, jazz dance company whose goal is to promote, produce, and perform quality jazz dance. Their tagline is "Jazz dance with class." Under the artistic direction of Marilyn York, the company focuses on theatrical jazz dance concerts with emphasis on technical excellence in dance, broad variety and professionalism. All of their dancers are seasoned performers with extensive classical dance training and performance experience. Dancin' Unlimited's repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary jazz dance and from the Big Band era to Broadway dance. Dancin' Unlimited produces and performs in the annual Jazz & Tap Dance Festival (now celebrating its 27th season) as part of its commitment of bringing the art of jazz dance to the Washington DC metropolitan area.
