Alaballew Productions and Egan's Ballard Jam House present The American Music Box series of shows featuring American music and composers.
The first of these is "Gershwin: Straight Up with a Twist" featuring Terence Alaric's piano arrangements of Gershwin tunes, along with the eloquent nylon-string guitar of Mark Turnbull (Laguna Beach, CA) and the sensual electric guitar of Hans York (Dallas, TX). Adding to the evening are two Seattle singers, Connie Corrick and Robin Parks.
This quintet of talented artists will perform a program from Gershwin's popular catalog, from "Swanee" to "Our Love Is Here To Stay," with hits in between such as "Fascinatin' Rhythm", "But Not For Me", "They Can't Take That Away From Me", "Embraceable You", "Nice Work If you Can Get It", "Someone to Watch Over Me", and many more. The program also includes some of Gershwin's classical pieces, and, of course, highlights from "Porgy and Bess".
If you haven't heard George Gershwin's melodies in a while and want to know why it is, though he died young at 38, this son of Jewish immigrants is considered to be one of America's greatest composers and the first to cross the border from popular to classical, well, this is your chance.
