ALOKE DUTTA RHYTHM CONCEPTS WORKSHOP
Join Aloke Dutta in a rare afternoon workshop opportunity in Brooklyn NY
Aloke is legendary in his approach to tabla as a solo performer and has been accredited with truly taking the tabla outside of its common role as an accompanying instrument and going where no other player has dared to go, exploring the tabla to its fullest potential. His continued devotion to his craft has earned him immense credibility and adept skills on the tablas leading him to be sought out as a teacher of many legendary western drummers including Danny Carey (tool), Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa), Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson), Roy El Wooten (Bella Fleck) and many more.
Rhythm Concepts workshop:
This workshop lasts for two hours. Cost: $50 (includes the book, "Rhythm of Tabla").
Description of the workshop:
The study of concepts of rhythm course is designed to help all dance and music students (drummers, vocalists, and instrumentalists) to develop their understanding of and their facility with rhythm, polyrhythm, time signatures and the time factor in music.
Students of this course need not bring their instruments, (but a pencil can be helpful) nor must they have a previous acquaintance with complex rhythmic structures. They will become familiar with meters of four, five, and seven, learn how to adjust basic patterns to suit various meters, and increase their ability to know where they are at any instant in a rhythmic cycle.
