Kid Wolf / Kate Lorenz & the Constellations CD Release
Max Bouzinov and Mike Prisby had played around the Boston scene in a Black-Keys-influenced blues-rock quartet in 2012. After disbanding and playing separately in other bands for several years, Max and Mike came together again in the spring of 2016 with a folkier approach to songwriting.
The resulting band has the overdriven spirit of an electric rock band with the intricacies of acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies. Chris Davis joined the band in early 2017, helping to expand Kid Wolf's acoustic sound, as well as providing the missing piece necessary to develop the band into an electric trio. The band then quickly grew into a 5-piece electric outfit with the additions of Anna Been--providing fullness with vocal harmonies and harmonica, as well as helping with rhythm and percussion duties--and Alex Mijailovic--lending textural support and Derek Trucks-like stylings on guitar.
After running a successful crowdfunding campaign to raise money for studio time, Kid Wolf joined up with Boston producer Mike Davidson to record at Davidson's Plaid Dog Recording Studio in Allston, MA. The resulting 5-track EP is was released on August 24th, 2017.
Kate Lorenz has been singing ever since she learned to talk. An avid lover of classic rock and motown, she started off by singing what she heard on mix tapes and in her parents' vinyl collection and cut her teeth on the blues while studying abroad playing with a pub band in Ireland.
Kate formed the nationally touring folk-rock band Rusty Belle with her brother Matt Lorenz (The Suitcase Junket), Zak Trojano and Jazer Giles in 2006 and has recorded backing vocals for fellow folk artists Chris Smither, Jeffrey Foucault, Caitlin Canty, Hayward Williams, The Suitcase Junket and Zak Trojano.
Kate currently lives in Western MA and plays and sings with her rock-n-roll band Kate Lorenz & The Constellations (Ben Falkoff, Max Adam and Don McAulay) and with the Southern VT honky tonk band The Rear Defrosters. Her powerful voice has been compared to the gritty howls of Etta James and Janis Joplin and the tender country soul of Patsy Cline.
Kate Lorenz's much-anticipated first solo album, "Sing When Lonely" is due out in January 2018.
