| Description |
Oaktoberfest returns for its 4th year to River Oaks Hot Springs in Paso Robles Saturday, September 27. Firestone Walker Brewing Co. and Estrella Associates present this years event with additional sponsorships from City of Paso Robles, Courtyard Marriott - Paso Robles, BMW of San Luis Obispo, Rabobank and Wine Wrangler. Event proceeds benefit the Hospice of San Luis Obispo County.
Oaktoberfest celebrates the unique flavors of the Central Coast while honoring classic beer traditions, said Jamie Smith, marketing manager for Firestone Walker Brewing Co. The community has really rallied around this event over the past few years. We have added new attractions and were expecting our biggest turnout yet.
Last years Oaktoberfest raised more than $20,000 for Hospice of San Luis Obispo County, and the goal this year is $30,000.
Oaktoberfest will be held at River Oaks Hot Springs Spa in Paso Robles from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 27. Tickets are $35 per person ($40 at the door if not sold out), which includes admission, 5 samples of beer or wine and a first pour from a selection of Firestone Walker beers. Additionally, the first 1,200 people through the door will receive a commemorative stein.
The multifaceted festivities will include the tapping of a special Oaktoberfest beer, live polka hits by Trio Internationale and reggae band, The Kicks. The popular Beer Olympics will also take place featuring feats of strength and agility such as keg tossing, barrel rolling and stein racing. Traditional Oktoberfest-style fare will be served by Old Vienna Restaurant of Shell Beach.
The ceremonial beer will arrive in barrels on a horse-drawn carriage. A selection Firestone Walker beers will be complemented by a German beer tent featuring a variety of German brews. German varietal wines from Firestone Vineyard, Locatelli Winery, Castoro Cellars, Meridian Vineyards, Takitt Family Vineyards, J. Lohr Vineyards, Wild Horse Winery and Harmony Cellars will be available for sampling in one of the few showcases of German wines in the area.
The Oktoberfest tradition originated in Munich, Germany in 1810 as a two-week festival of food, fun and beer. Oktoberfest is today celebrated around the world as regional breweries release hearty seasonal beers.
