Calling all bearded and non-bearded trippy people - tonight's show is for you (and you). Call it "freak folk," call it "music," call it whatever - this bill is all about music that aims for transcendant, meditative headspace, and uses guitar and voice and other acoustic instruments to get there. Akron/Family sometimes fuction as the backing band for ex-Swans musical diety Michael Gira, and is also a very rad band in itself. Their debut self-titled album got rave reviews last year, and they're currently criss-crossing the globe in support of it. Sir Richard Bishop is a Blackbird favorite. He's also one third of cult heroes Sun City Girls, and brilliant solo guitarist. Plants is from Portland and features Josh Blanchard (Point Line Plane, Church of Psychedelia), Molly Griffith, and revolving cast of like-minded souls playing ancient folk music stuff.
