The Shop of Wild Dreams

Consolidated Works
Seattle, WA

The internationally acclaimed Tiptons Sax Quartet and Drums collaborate with the visual/graphic artist Danijel Zezelj for the world premiere of The Shop of Wild Dreams, a performance with music, projected images and live painting based on text written by Zezelj and original video by Aric Mayer.

The Shop of Wild Dreams is composed of series of short stories featuring real and invented characters, from a local baker, a young child, and a Japanese samurai to Nikola Tesla, J.P. Morgan and Thelonious Monk. As we follow the stories, the common line between them becomes more visible.  Each story describes a dream as an intimate and personal reflection.  These dreams can also be seen as universal symbol or metaphor. The final story connects with the first one and closes the circle.

Amy Denio, Jessica Lurie & their group the Tiptons Sax Quartet (four saxophones plus percussionist, expanded with acoustic bassist and drummer) have composed a live soundtrack, which will include narration and singing. During each performance Zezelj will paint a series of images on large panels, in real time, creating the visual storyline for the Dreams. Short projected videos by Aric Mayer will augment the visual storytelling between several of the live paintings.
