David Herrera Performance Company's "The Stranger"
Now in its 6th Home Season, David Herrera Performance Co. (DHPCo.) continues to carve out a prominent position as one of San Francisco's culturally relevant modern dance/theater companies. For its 6th season the company will present "The Stranger (Part 1)" a study and discourse inspired by Artistic Director David Herrera's experience growing up poor in Hollywood, Ca. Slated to premiere over two weekends on April 19-28, 2013 at Dance Mission Theater w/ guests Requisite Dance (April 19-21) & Push Dance Company (April 26-28).

Using the personal stories of the director and our cast, "the Stranger (Part 1)" examines the difficulties in understanding and finding oneself when feelings of belonging and exclusion are at play via poverty, culture, and image.

The grass is greener, right? But is it really?

Can we come to know ourselves through pushing away culture and even family? Or are we at danger in becoming a permanent stranger to the self by doing so? "the Stranger (Part 1)" presents the uncertainties we experience in growing up and the struggle in understanding and finding oneself in all this terrain.

"Stranger" will be created in collaboration with theater director Jean Johnstone, light designer Ray Oppenheimer, commissioned composer Rob Reich, costumer Keriann Egeland, and the dancers.

Come April we will live out all these ideas and see for ourselves.  PLEASE JOIN US!
