Ten Month Salad Greens on a Small Piece of Land
Kittredge Farm systems include hoop houses with cloches, a ground-insulated greenhouse in construction, permanent raised beds, and comprehensive nutrition program with drip tape irrigation from a stream and foliar sprays. This workshop will include discussion on converting a run-down dairy farm into a profitable small-scale greens, vegetables, and meat operation. In 2012, this farm grossed $30,000+, using one third of an acre, with labor inputs of roughly 20hrs/week in 9 months it's first year of commercial operation. This workshop will uncover the low barriers to entering the greens market, using simple and inexpensive infrastructure to produce a high quality final product; cover sewing and harvesting; preventing pests and diseases; and wholesale marketing along with a farm tour exploring our progress towards self-reliance.
Instructor: Dan Kittredge is a life-long organic farmer and director of the Bionutrient Food Association.
