The Throwaways
The Throwaways Bhawin Suchak & Ira McKinley, 2013, 72 Min. The Throwaways tells the story of homeless filmmaker and activist Ira McKinley, documenting the struggle to turn his life around and have a positive impact on his community in inner-city Albany, NY. Weaving McKinley's personal narrative of survival with stories of movements rising up to speak truth to power, the film is a powerful and intimate look at the complex challenges facing urban America. As McKinley strives to get his voice heard, he also confronts the unavoidable stories of his past, battling against personal demons and the stigma of being an ex-felon. Ultimately The Throwaways is a call to action, a film that empowers those who are invisible to stand up and be seen and heard.
