The musicians on stage who have kindly donated their talents are:
JOHN REISCHMAN A Juno nominated and Grammy award winning artist, John Reischman is known today for his work with his band the Jaybirds and his acclaimed solo albums, but he got his start as an original member of the Tony Rice Unit in the late 1970s. He's a master instrumentalist capable of swinging between reinventions of traditional old-time tunes, deconstructions from the bluegrass repertoire, and compelling original tunes, many of which have become standards. He is also a powerful bandleader, touring his band the Jaybirds all over Canada and the United States. John embodies the true spirit of acoustic music in the 21st century.
5 ON A STRING 5 on a String has been picking and singing bluegrass music all around the Pacific Northwest for over twenty-five years. They have a family friendly show with plenty of hot picking and fiddle tunes to entertain just about any audience. The band plays and sings in the old time radio show style, using only one microphone. Over the years they have collected a large volume of performance material and can play for more than four hours without repeating a song. They'll get toes tapping and hands clapping, guaranteed.
THE LONESOME TOWN PAINTERS The Lonesome Town Painters are Vancouver's traditional bluegrass standard-bearers. Having gravitated toward each other in late-night local jam sessions, and by way of their mutual adoration for the Stanley Brothers, these fellas harken back to the raw and ragged edge of the genre. Playing an eclectic mix of songs about love and loss, the odd original, and gospel, The Lonesome Town Painters would be equally at home in the barroom on Saturday night and the next mornings church service, comfortable treading that fine line between perdition and salvation.
