On The Map
More than a sports story, this documentary describes the perfect intersection of sports with history. At a difficult time in Israeli history, the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team captured the hearts of a nation and sports fans throughout the world. In 1977, this Cinderella team competed against powerhouse nations such as the Soviet Union, Italy, and Spain and stunned the world.
Interviews with NBA star Bill Walton, Israeli politician Natan Sharansky, former NBA commissioner David Stern, former Israeli ambassador to the US Michael Oren, and of course the teams players help put these events into historical context. This film is directed by two-time Israeli Academy Award recipient Dani Menken and has won the audience award for best documentary at numerous Jewish film festivals throughout the United States.
