Collaboration In Concert featuring guest artist Joel Javier
Ursa Ensembles unique Collaboration In Concert events combine live music, art creation, liberal arts education, and audience participation. A guest artist is invited to teach our audience a few tricks of the trade, typically focusing on one element of their craft. For instance, a visual artist might teach the audience how to craft lines using chalk and pencil. Then, Ursa Ensemble performs. During this performance, audience members use their newly-taught art skills to create an art piece guided by the music they are hearing and seeing.
This event will feature guest artist, Joel Javier. Joel received his BFA in studio art from Murray State University and an MA in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as a merit scholar in 2011. Recently he has worked at the Art Institute of Chicago as the lead instructor for Teen Lab, an After School Matters Program and as the Interim Associate Programs Manager at the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago.
