"Walking through the 19th Century with Frederick Douglass"
The On Point Theatre Project presents the 'Shades of Blue Ensemble' bringing a deeply passionate and timely performance using song and spoken word to reveal how one man crossed the great racial divide that tore his country apart. FREDERICK DOUGLASS, born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, an African-American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman, made a career of agitating the American conscience. The performers use his life to describe the shared journey of African slaves from bondage to emancipation. He was a leader of their transition into new American citizens with a made in America Culture that was uniquely American with no ties to the old ways.
