OPAT Presents "Ojai Strong & A Woman's Life in Song"
Since great strides have been made toward parity with men (and more to come), we at OPAT decided to create a musical revue with a company of 6 great singers to celebrate womanhood, said producer Stuart Crowner from the Ojai Performing Arts Theater.  OPATs CEO Joan Kemper added these 6 women have breathtaking talents as performers and we just plain wanted to work with them. We also thought we could help raise awareness for the new Ojai Womens Fund with this project, she said.

The revue is called OJAI STRONG: A Womans Life in Song. Each song speaks to a chapter in a womans life: marriage, children, working, childbirth, divorce, self-image. The songs were written by geniuses of the musical theater such as Stephen Sondheim and Jerry Herman and pop music such as Bob Dylan, Amanda McBroom and Dolly Parton.  The songs say something powerful about womanhood and are often funny!

Everyone in the cast is a professional as is everyone in the band. Musical director Michele Brourman has been Amanda McBrooms writing and performing partner; she gets to work with the 6 hometown pros:  Asunta Fleming, whos starred in 3 musicals for OPAT; Laura Dekkers who has had a significant career on Broadway with top directors there; Adryon de Léon, daughter of Dr. & Ms. Carl Gross, who sings at California Adventure and tours with the band Orgone; Julia Denney Hamann, whose career with Disney prepared her to choreograph all the recent musicals for Nordhoff; Judy Ovitz, who was in summer stock and a vocal group with three guys and performed in many commercials and well-known feature films before she moved to Ojai to raise horses; and the nationally known, respected songwriter/performer, Ojais own Amanda McBroom.

McBroom: I am thrilled to be sharing a night of music with these wonderful, talented  women. The thought of being on a stage with them, in mascara and spangles as opposed to blue jeans and dog leashesto weave a tapestry of harmony around such a great collection of songs... who could ask for a more fabulous way to celebrate  the Ojai Womens Fund? The Fund is a wonderful organization and this is going to be a spectacular evening!
