Beekeeping 101

Friday (2/15/2013) from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continues Saturday (2/16/2013) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This seminar consists of lectures: Planting a Bee Friendly Yard or Garden; Honey Bee Biology-Seasonal Hive Management; Beekeeping Equipment Choices and Uses; Meet your State Apiarist-Buying or Selling Honeybees & State Required Inspections; Swarming-keeping your bee's in their hive; Getting Started in Beekeeping "The Myths and Rumors"; as well as hands-on break-out sessions where beekeepers will be available to "Talk Bee's" as they discuss the latest beekeeping techniques and answer all of your questions. This course fulfils the educational requirement of six (6) hours of classroom instruction in Introductory Beekeeping training for the qualified level of the Virginia Master Beekeeper Program. This seminar was developed for those interested with 0-3 years of experience.  

Cost: $30.00 per person or $45.00 per couple (with 1 set of books) includes Notes From The Bee Yard handout, MAAREC Publication Beekeeping Basics, VMBP Qualified Level Study Outline, recommended reading and reference list for new beekeepers, as well as homemade refreshments and lunch on Saturday and a five-month Norfolk Beekeepers membership from February 2013 to June 30, 2013.
