Kiran Ahluwalia is a modern exponent of the great vocal traditions of India & Pakistan. Yet she departs from that which she honors so intensely with a personal fl air and determination that can only come from a confidence and a deep understanding of the form she is building upon and moving beyond.
At the center of Kiran Ahluwalia's music is love in all its shades and hues from yearning romantic love to Sufi mysticism.
Her latest CD, Aam Zameen: Common Ground, was recently awarded her second JUNO Award (Canada's prestigious "Grammy"). Her discography, now five albums deep is one of global music's most interesting furrows. Her ease of manner on stage coupled with her vocal ability and backed by her seasoned group, makes her a unique and inspiring performer who's legion of fans continues to grow with every captivating performance.
On stage, Kiran is accompanied by some of North America's most exciting artists: Downbeat magazine's No. 2 Rising Star guitarist Rez Abbasi, hard-grooving tabla player Nitin Mitta, the very funky Mambou Ba on bass and the superbly melodic accordion player Will Holshouser.
