Defining Virtuoso! The Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis presents Sonya Hayes and Stravinsky
The Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis, an all volunteer orchestra, presents Sonya Hayes in concert!

The Philharmonic brings its 2017-2018 subscription season to a close with a bit of virtuosic display.  Leonard Bernstein's three dance episodes from On the Town takes us to New York with sailor's on shore leave!  His whimsical musical spree is filled with jazz rhythms and lively orchestral outbursts!  What is particularly wonderful about the nature of this kind of concert is that the first half of the concert can celebrate several things, like the composition winners of the Indiana Music Educators yearly Composition Competition.  Working with these young people as they test their wings at writing music, the Phil not only rehearses the music, but invites the young composer's insights to hear about the music's genesis and inspirations. As well, we welcome to the stage, violinist, Sonya Hayes, daughter of Philharmonic violinist, Sondra Hayes, to show us the beauty and virtuosity of violin!  After intermission, the singular music of great Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, brings a Russian legend to life.  Rounding out our season that began on a powerful and heroic note in Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Stravinsky's Firebird shows how a compassionate gesture pays forward into a powerful and similarly emblematic symphonic result!
