The New Year finds a strange but hilarious Americana comedy entitled JESUS HATES ME by Wayne Lemon on American Repertory Theater of WNY's stage.
In the backdrop of a putt-putt golf course (called the "Blood of the Lamb") with a religious theme, five Texans take an existential journey to try to see their lives more clearly before the booze and drugs kick in.
This crazed Americana existential comedy makes its WNY debut in January 2013 and falls under the directorial eye of Michael Lodick who's successful overseeing of THE GIN GAME was a must-see centerpiece of ART's 2011-12 season. JESUS HATES ME opens on January 17th and runs until February 7th.
Featuring Precilia Young, who plays the bi-polar Piper Laurie religious train-wreck KAREN WEBSTER (owner of the Blood of the Lamb putt-putt golf course). Her son ETHAN will be played by the unknown but not the uncommon, Matt Kindley. Joining the cast is the talented Maura Nolan, as LIZZY, who runs the town dive-bar a-washed in a pint of regrets and missed opportunities, and Anthony Alcocar as BOONE, the all-so-charming resident whore-bag. Bryan Figueroa plays the only Black sheriff in Texas, Trane and Jacob Kahn is morosely sublime as Georgie.
