BUTTON POETRY

Button Poetry is a Minneapolis-based company and independent publisher, and the world's largest distributor of spoken word and performance poetry media. Button runs a number of local poetry shows, including Button Poetry Live, the first Monday of every month in downtown Saint Paul.


SABRINA BENAIM

Sabrina Benaim is a writer and performance artist with over 50 million views and work about exploring mental health, family, and love. Her debut poetry collection, Depression & Other Magic Tricks enters the world this August. At her release show, Benaim will perform and bring her book to life and be available to sign copies. Opening performers include Blythe Baird, Donte Collins, and Guante. Author of Pansy, Andrea Gibson, states about Depression & Other Magic Tricks, "I read this book on a day I couldn't get out of bed and it made me feel like I had a friend in the world. This book disappears loneliness."

With a home base in Toronto, Sabrina  has written poems for ESPNW, The Government of Canada, and most recently, made her Canadian television debut with Sport Chek, writing and voicing the third installment of their #WhatItTakes Olympic Manifesto video series. She enjoys breaking down stigma, women who help women and the Toronto Blue Jays. Sabrina will accept any invitation to dance.


BLYTHE BAIRD

Blythe Baird is a 20-year-old actress, poet, and author of Give Me a God I Can Relate To (Where Are You Press). Her work has been featured by The Huffington Post, Write Bloody, Chicago Literati, Banango Street, and Wicked Banshee, EverydayFeminism, Ashton Kutcher, and more. In 2014, she represented Chicago as the youngest competitor at the National Poetry Slam.


DONTE COLLINS

Donte Collins is a 21-year-old queer, black poet. Named the first Youth Poet Laureate of Saint Paul, Minnesota. They are the author of Autopsy (Button Poetry) and winner of the 2016 Most Promising Young Poet Award from the Academy of American Poets. They are an alum of TruArtSpeaks, as well as a current board member of Black Table Arts. Donte resides in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where they hibernate during the winter and seriously consider purchasing a warmer yet less fashionable jacket.


GAUNTE

Guante is an MC, two-time National Poetry Slam champion, activist and educator based in Minneapolis, MN. His work explores the relationships between identity, power, and resistance, and has been featured on Upworthy, Welcome to Night Vale, Everyday Feminism, BBC Radio 6 Music, MSNBC, the Huffington Post, and beyond. He is the author of A Love Song, A Death Rattle, A Battle Cry (Button Poetry).
