All artists have different methods and motivations for creating their art. But whether they be visual, literary or kinesthetic, we all share a common goal. That is, simply, to communicate. To reach out across the vastness of being to appeal to that in us which is most permanently enduring: the sense of mystery surrounding our lives; our capacity for wonder, love and pain; and in doing so, strengthening our connection to the latent feeling of fellowship which binds together humanity and all creation.
Without connection, there would be no art. Collaboration plays essential and varied roles in the creative process: from the spark of inspiration, which often comes from unexpected places, leading to the artists work, revision and perfection, to the sharing of that work with an audience, and finally to interpretation and inspiration again. This cycle repeats itself, advancing our personal and societal growth by expanding our perspective and helping us to better understand the fullness of our lives. Transcending mediums, we can witness the evocative words of poetry in concert with the laconic simplicity of a photo, and see the brushstroke mirrored in a dancer's grace.
The artists featured in Eye for an Eye: art inspiring art have powerful voices in their individual work, but together, those singular voices harmonize to create a symphony of joined ideas greater than the sum of its parts. This cross-genre journey seeks to give a tangible form to the role of collaboration by inviting viewers to observe the interplay of individual and coproduced artistic works.
