A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A VICTORIAN READING
In the mid 1860s, Charles Dickens took to the stage to give dramatic readings of this story to sell out crowds. Working from the text of the author's original reading copy, veteran actor Thom Bray faithfully re-creates the theatrical experience-- Victorian dress and all-- that Dickens' audiences had!

Appearing as Mr. Dickens himself, Mr. Bray recreates a magical moment in history when literature met theatre.

The Oregonian said of Brays performance,  "No ghostly apparitions floating down from the fly space or up from a trap door. No street-scene crowds or wooden crutches. Just a room, a text, a voice and the audience's imagination." (Bob Hicks, Oregonian, December 17, 2005.)

He first had great success as an actor, guest starring in such TV classics as Lou Grant, One Day At A Time, Mancuso, F.B.I., Private Benjamin, Remington Steele, Murder She Wrote, and then as a series regular in NBC TV's top twenty hit, Riptide. In 1989, Thom made the transition to writing, scripting teleplays for classic comedies such as Designing Women and Evening Shade. Thom also wrote scripts for the half hour comedies Kirk, Fired-Up & The Crew and for one hour dramas such as Now & Again and Nash Bridges. In addition to his writing duties, Thom also served as a producer on many of the shows he worked on. Thom continues to act professionally. Besides his annual performance in A Christmas Carol, Portland audiences will have seen him in a critically acclaimed performance as James Wicker in Profile Theatre Project's production of It's Only A Play, and as Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird. In 2005, Thom returned to school to finish his Master's degree in teaching and now teaches middle school drama. He also teaches Television Studies at Portland State University. Thom is the father of three wonderful and talented children, and shares his life with his extraordinary wife of over 30 years. He's a lucky man.
