Including Rumi, Hafez and classical Persian singing.|
The night will begin with a brief lecture about the earth-based tradition, Winter Solstice, and its significance. Traditionally the night is spent reciting poetry, eating particular fruits, and making divination for the upcoming year. Artist Fariba Bogzaran will host the evening by presenting an installation based on the Night of Yalda.
The evening will be filled with various poetry recitations, classical Persian singing, and audience participation in reciting poetry by Rumi in his original language, Farsi. The audience will have a chance to partake in divination practice to set their intentions for the New Year. The evening is intended to create a poetic space, to create a community collective, to be with the depth of darkness in spirit of poetry and music, and to celebrate the light of the new beginning.
