Dynamic Chamber Music - Beautiful Historic Instruments

At the Kennebec Early Music Festival (August 15 to 20) enjoy musicians of national and international renown from San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Portland, and Bath performing the music of the Renaissance masters, as well as Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert on historic instruments: Renaissance lute, Baroque violin and violoncello, Flemish harpsichord, and two different Viennese fortepianos.

Travel back to the England of Queen Elizabeth I and William Shakespeare to experience delightful concert "at Court" of music by songs and lute pieces by Philip Rosseter, Thomas Campian, Robert Johnson, and Thomas Morley.  All of the song are in English.

The Kennebec Early Music Festival is supported by grants from the Edgard and Geraldine Feder Foundation, the Davenport Family Trust, and the Maine Arts Commission, with major sponsorships from Bath Savings Trust Company and William Raveis/Carleton Real Estate and advertising by Bath's distinguished businesses community.

MEET THE PERFORMERS

Tenor Timothy Neill Johnson has performed and recorded with many ensembles here and abroad, including the Los Angeles Baroque Ensemble, La Petite Bande, Collegium Vocale, the Handel Society of Baltimore, Le Concert Spirituel of Paris, and the Portland Symphony.  His repertoire ranges from English ayres to the song cycles of Benjamin Britten.  He is on the faculties of Bowdoin College, the University of Maine in Augusta, and Colby College.

Lutenist Timothy Burris has performed widely in Europe and the US, including appearances with world-renowned early music vocalists Derek Lee Ragin and Jennifer Lane. The most recent of his nine recordings includes his own transcription of J. S. Bachs Ciaccona for solo violin.  The lute instructor at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music in Antwerp from 1990 to 1996, he is currently on the applied music faculty of Colby College, where he directed the Collegium during the 2015 to 2016 academic year.
