Socks in the Frying Pan comprises of Aodán Coyne on guitar and vocals and the accomplished Hayes brothers, Shane Hayes on accordion and Fiachra Hayes on fiddle & banjo.This youthful trio blend Irish traditional melodies with their own personal flair which has gained them critical acclaim and accolades including New Band of the Year by the Irish Music Association
To open the evening, and a tradition for the series that celebrates Boston-based musicians, Conor Hearn and Maura Shawn Scanlin will join in. Maura Shawn, a two-time U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion, and a winner of the Glenfiddich Fiddle Competition, is a recent New England Conservatory grad and trained in classical as well as traditional fiddle. Conor, out of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD's thriving Irish music scenes, makes his home in Boston playing guitar for a number of traditional music acts and bands in the area. He recently graduated from the Burren's local university :), Tufts! Check them out below:
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
