Dances of India's 40th Annual Performance--Devi from the Ashes--Cinderella in India
Dances of India, St. Louis' venerable classical Indian dance company, presents its 40th season in 2017-2018.
Its colorful centerpiece is Devi of the Ashes--or, Cinderella in India. The beloved fairy-tale is given a spicy Indian spin in this fully narrated, original script.
Traditional Indian dances will also be performed alongside Devi of the Ashes. Guest artists include contemporary French-Canadian dancer Patrick Suzeau, who will perform a piece fused of Odissi and contemporary Western movement, Kiran Rajagopalan, a professional classical Indian dancer from New York, and Sanjay Shantaram, Artistic Director of ShivaPriya School of Dance in Bangalore, India.
And the dozens of dozens of members of the Dances of India company, trained by Artistic Director Asha Prem, will perform as well!
Asha Prem has been teaching classical Indian dance in St. Louis since 1976. She also teaches in the Washington University Performing Arts Department, where she has been for decades.
