RIWP 2013 Spring Conference
Cultivating Youth Voices: Powerful Literacy Pedagogies for the 21st Century

We invite all K-16 teachers to attend our annual Spring Conference. Now more than ever, the teaching of writing and literacy is our collective mission as educators, from the primary grades through college. Our Spring Conference will focus on the power of our collective knowledge as educators. We look forward to coming together in March to share pedagogies, practices, and perspectives.

We are excited to announce our 2013 keynote speaker, education activist, writer and teacher educator, Ernest Morrell. Dr. Morrell is President-Elect of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), Professor of English Education at Columbia University and Director of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME) at Columbia. Dr. Morrell's keynote talk will focus on engaging students in literacy by bringing popular culture into the classroom and by empowering students to become producers of knowledge through authentic research and action.

The RIWP Annual Spring Conference is a professional development opportunity for K-16 teachers looking for innovative ways to inspire and engage students with writing and literacy. Those who attend will have the opportunity to hear from and meet with a nationally regarded leader in teaching, to participate in workshops, and to network with other educators.

The mission of the Rhode Island Writing Project is to improve the teaching of writing in schools. Over one thousand teachers have participated in RIWP programs since 1985. These teachers bring new ideas and inspirations to their colleagues and classrooms in Rhode Island's schools.
