GYPSY - POSTPONED UNTIL NOVEMBER
Hailed by critics as the great American musical-with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by Arthur Laurents--the show is based on the memoirs of legendary stripper Gypsy Rose Lee. The highly entertaining story focuses on the ultimate stage mom, Mama Rose, and her hopes and dreams for her daughters, June and Louise. As the lights of Vaudeville dim, Louise steps into the spotlight as Gypsy Rose Lee and rises to become one of the most famed burlesque performers of all time. Featuring such songs as, Let Me Entertain You, Everything's Coming Up Roses, and You Gotta Have a Gimmick, this musical offers song, dance, humor and the sheer force of the amazing Mama Rose.
The show has been postponed and will not be performed in August. New dates are November 17th through December 3. Rated PG.
As always, wine, soft drinks, cheese, desserts and snacks are available to purchase and may be enjoyed during the performance.
Doors open one hour prior to show time.
Director & Choreographer ZACH JOHNSON
Zach Johnson came to the Central Coast in 2007 after studying theatre arts at The University of La Verne and doing his post graduate studies in musical theatre at the GSA Conservatoire in the UK. Since 2007 Zach has acted, choreographed and directed for numerous companies, schools, and dance studios on the central coast; Including PCPA, Sorcerer Productions, Kelrik Productions, Chameleon Productions and SLOREP (Formerly San Luis Obispo Little Theatre.) In 2010 Zach moved to New York City, as many theatre artists do, staying 6 months before he began traveling with the First National Tour of Broadway Across Americas production of Nickelodeons Storytime Live. While seeing the majority of the country Zach got to bring to life some of Nickelodeons most loved cartoon Characters, HoHo the Monkey (Ni Hao Kailan) and Pablo the Pengiun (Backyardigans). In 2011 Zach returned to SLO and got back into the swing of the central coast and was offered the opportunity to finally helm a show as Director and Choreographer with The SLOLT production of "Oklahoma!" Since then he has worked up and down the coast, with a small stint in Missouri, primarily as a Director and Choreographer. In the last couple years Zach has had the chance to spend more time on the Stage as an actor, most recently seen in SLOLTs "The Nerd." Throughout his travels Zach is ever thankful for the chance to come back home to the Central Coast and is thrilled to be working with WCT.
