UNDERSTATEMENT ~ Liam O'Brien's Faithless Followers
Liam O'Brien writes music that evolves slowly, evoking a narrative that unfolds without the help of elaborate chord progressions and melodic development, but rather through a sense of space and visceral urgency. The Faithless Followers are a large and supportive group of musicians who help to actualize his songs and compositions in a variety of forms. He also performs with Holy Sheboygan! and D'Amato.
"Understatement" is an hour-long performance driven by 15 talented Faithless Followers, including the premiere of a work organized by master violinist Ernest Brusubardis. Experience the shifting evolution of the group from string quartet to rock band, or folky jug-band to electronic soundscape, as the rhythms of multi-layered percussion take the audience through an attempted snapshot, a mere understatement, of the human condition.
