Bemidji Symphony Orchestra presents Summer Pops concert "Westbound-Don't Stop"
The Bemidji Symphony Orchestra (BSO) presents their Summer Pops concert "Westbound: Don't Stop" with guest pianist Philip Aaberg on Saturday evening, July 8, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bemidji High School Auditorium. Dr. Beverly Everett conducts.

A native of Montana, Aaberg is known worldwide for compositions that evoke the spaciousness and beauty of the western landscape. Classically trained, he incorporates bluegrass, rock, jazz, classical and new age music elements into his musical structures, resulting in compositions that are noted for their rigorous keyboard technique, diverse influences, and colorful compositional style.

Aaberg gained international recognition with a series of successful piano recordings released on Windham Hill Records, including the highly acclaimed solo album, "High Plains." He followed this with seven more solo albums:  "Out of the Frame," "Upright," "Cinema," "Field Notes," "Live from Montana" (which received a Grammy nomination), "Christmas," and "Blue West." A Harvard graduate (courtesy of a Leonard Bernstein Scholarship) he has performed with the Boston Pops, Peter Gabriel, Elvin Bishop, at the Marlboro Chamber Music Festival, and has appeared on many of the worlds great concert stages, including Chicago, New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Madrid, Stockholm, Glasgow, Tokyo, London, Rome, Milan and Montreal.

The BSO will be joined by the annual Mystery Maestro who will conduct Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever."

Doors open for seating at 6:30 pm. In light of summer road construction activities near the Bemidji High School, audience members are advised to be aware of potential detours in that area and adjust their travel time accordingly.

Tickets are $10.00 for both adults and senior citizens.  K-12 students are admitted free.  Tickets are available at the door or in advance at Luekens Village Foods North and South or online at brownpapertickets.com. A free ticket to "Westbound: Don't Stop" is included with the purchase of a $70 BSO Season Ticket, which will be available for purchase (with cash or check) at the door on the evening of the concert. They can also be purchased online with a credit card on the BSO website, www.bemidjisymphony.org. This concert is funded with a grant from the George W. Nielsen Foundation.
