Fertile GroundWorks' Taste for Giving
Fertile GroundWorks' mission is to use education to empower to individuals and communities to sustainably grow nutritious organic produce for themselves and others, and to ensure everyone in our community has access to fresh healthy food.
Teach, Grow, Give is our mantra.
We are hosting our fifth annual 'Taste for Giving' fundraiser on Saturday August 26, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm at our Garden of Grace at 4743 East Avenue, Livermore. The Garden of Grace is the largest of our teaching gardens. We would like to invite you to come join us in community camaraderie, games for all ages, music by Les Farrington, delicious garden fresh food and drink. Participate in a silent auction and other activities while celebrating and supporting Fertile GroundWorks' efforts to provide healthy food to all.
Since its inception in 2010, Fertile GroundWorks' volunteers have grown and harvested more than 80,000 pounds of produce in our Garden of Grace. We have expanded from 5 to 73 garden beds. All Garden of Grace produce is given to Open Heart Kitchen, our community's food pantries and our elderly neighbors. In addition to providing healthy organic food to our community members, Fertile GroundWorks uses the Garden of Grace as our primary teaching garden. In 2016, 576 volunteers learned about sustainable gardening while donating more than 6,000 hours and growing over ten tons of food to share with our neighbors in need.
Fertile GroundWorks also champions and facilitates the creation of new community/institutional gardens. Fertile GroundWorks' volunteers have helped establish 18 gardens at three high schools for their Agricultural Science and Culinary Arts programs and gardens at nine elementary schools for their science programs and gardens at two churches to help them provide food for their neighbors.
