An Evening with Judith Sloan
Off the Record: Between a Laugh and a Hard Place

Stories of Migration, Refuge and Finding Home

Actress, writer, comedienne, Judith Sloan combines humor, pathos, and a love of the absurd in an evening of monologues and stories. She investigates the way people remember or misremember and how we collect evidence from eyewitness accounts in a world bombarded by 24-hour news.  Along with millions of other Americans Sloan finds herself  between a laugh and a hard place, and  peppers her character monologues with up to the minute commentary.

Co-sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick and Beth Israel Congregation in Bath

Proceeds to benefit EarSay's work with immigrant youth and the The Midcoast New Mainers Support Group is an interfaith collaborative offering resettlement support to asylum seekers and refugees in the Bath-Brunswick area.

"Oral History with a twist!" The World, Public Radio International

"A world view that sees comedy and tragedy as two bones of the same skeleton in the closet. Superb!" The Scotsman

"...boldly carries the tradition of oral history into the 21st Century. Electrifying!" Eve Ensler playwright

".. a whirlwind tour and love poem of what has often been called the most racially and ethnically diverse county in America. In the tradition of the playwright Anna Deavere Smith, Sloan performs Crossing the BLVD adopting the personae (and respectfully mimicking the accents) of the varied immigrants. The New York Times

"Her empathy and perceptiveness have the potential to inspire much-needed understanding amid the inflammatory rhetoric that outweighs reason in our current political season." Broadway World
